Fort Level Design

In this project I drew out concepts for a new level design. After a couple of iterations, I took the concept from paper to Photoshop. In Photoshop I drew out the map with simple linework and began breaking everything down. This being my level design project, I had to learn the ins and outs of level design. I had to familiarize myself with shape language, color language, different types of play (explicit, intrinsic, and emergent play), and gameplay beats that allow the level to flow naturally. I also had to keep in mind the composition of the level and even delve into foreshadowing with the view of the fort, then intrigue when the fort is out of view. This is a common practice in real life architecture.

After finishing the 2D map, I then began the blockout process within the Unreal Engine 5. Once the blockout was complete, I then created some simple code/blueprints for the boss and the ability to destroy the enemy actors. This project was a great first-time delve into level design and it really peaked my interest. I can safely say that it sparked a massive interest in level design.

Thank you!
